May 5, 2015: An Intimate Backyard Wedding in Southern Maryland
It blows me away that one year ago, I took my photo hobby/obsession to the next level and officially started Shanna Edberg Photography as a business. Armed with a new lens (the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC) and more passion than experience, I started photographing weddings. This blog post isn't about my first wedding (I'll save that for later), but it's my first full wedding where a complete stranger decided to hired me. Exciting times!
This wedding took place in the family's lush backyard in Waldorf, Maryland. It was August - a bold choice for a wedding in this area. Luckily the weather was decent, with enough cloud cover to make the lighting nice and even for photography and keeping the worst of the summer heat away.
My jaw almost dropped when I headed to the preparation room where the bride was getting ready. The blush pink lace wedding dress was an absolute stunner. When I complimented the bride on her choice, she said that having a colored wedding dress was part of staying true to herself.
One of my favorite parts of the day is the bridal portraits. It's hard to beat windows when it comes to gorgeous portrait lighting.
Meanwhile, the guests were settling in and the groom waited for his bride.
The processionals represented the bridal party, families, and children of the bride and groom.
The ceremony itself was simple and religious. The couple chose to do a unity candle ceremony, a broom ceremony, and a ceremony to baptize the babies.
After the wedding ceremony, the couple was exhilarated. It was so much fun to take pictures of such a happy group!
The reception setup was in a tent in the backyard, with classy black, white, and pink themes for the decor.
The grand entrance led straight into the first dance.
One fantastic moment in the reception was when the bridal party all got together to sing for the bride and groom!
The groom got really into the garter toss.
The reception was full of great candid moments.
